This is a brief description of how Track/Trail dogs work...

Key Benefits

bullet

Are able to find and follow one scent trail out of many

bulletAre able to determine direction of travel to help allocate resources
bullet

Are able to be utilized in urban environments

Capabilities

Track/Trail dogs follow a specific scent utilizing the approximate trail of their subject. A "PLS" or Point Last Seen is needed, and conditions may dictate how long a trail is viable, based on surfaces of the trail and weather conditions.

These dogs generally work in a harness on a long line. Handlers of these dogs need to be in excellent shape to be able to keep up with a dog on a hot trail, as the handler goes where the dog goes.
