Air scent dogs utilize the air currents to locate their target scent and can be either scent specific or simply looking for any "warm human body".  Likened to how a herding dog knows there is a wolf in the area without ever crossing a trail or track, these K-9's pull the scent from the air.  The K-9 works off-leash, searching where they find the scent.  They are required to do a trained recall and indication to the handler if they make a find.  These dogs can be used in hasty, perimeter, route of travel or grid searches as they don't require a point last seen.
